Press release.
The implementation of the Firearms Control Act, Act 60 of 2000, is regarded by ourselves and followers as not just fruitless and wasteful squandering of taxpayer' money but also as an utter fraud on the population, most specifically against black firearm owners. Given the inability and unwillingness of the government to root out crime and allow law abiding citizens to protect and defend their rights and persons by cancelling their ability to own a firearm for personal protection.
The term Black Gun Owner (BGO) incorporates a vast spectrum of people that fall into the low income groups, including many who endeavour to derive a living within the informal sector. Moreover, many BGO's reside in informal settlements which provide scant security against the criminal element amongst them. Many hundreds of black citizens have to regularly travel long distances by foot, giving considerable threat with regard to criminal attack..
Firearm licences previously issued to individuals were issued for life unless a person was proven unfit. Hence, the BGOASA feels that these licences were unfairly cancelled by Government. Relicencing, application for competency certificates and unnecessary training training are expensive requirements for people that in many cases have to struggle from day to day just to put food on the table, especially given the current economic downturn in our country amongst the disadvantaged.
BGOASA asks Government a simple question, How else but by the use of armed guards and armoured vehicles are Ministers keeping themselves safe, what are they afraid of that we shouldn't be? We ask why is it that this privilege of personal security is rapidly becoming reserved purely for the ruling elite and other advantaged persons? This is a travesty, again, we say it is a fraud being perpetrated on the masses by the few in power. It is wrong, therefore it must be immediately stopped.
Continuance of this insanity by Government shall only lead to the common working classes suffering at the hands of criminals, criminals that they themselves are supporting. Continuance of this travesty shall only force us to place our feet in the street once more as the only means of validating our point. We plead with the President: Enable us! You have the problem, we have the solution.
